55th Annual White Marlin Invitational Wraps Up at Beach Haven Marlin and Tuna Club

The Beach Haven Marlin and Tuna Club concluded its 55th Annual White Marlin Invitational on the southern end of Long Beach Island this past Saturday, August 17th. Despite challenging conditions, more than 50 boats participated in the tournament, fishing over the course of two out of the four days from Wednesday through Saturday.

Teams faced finicky fish and a scarcity of bites, but it was the crew of the Fishin Fever, a 38 Downeast vessel out of Cape May, NJ, that stole the show. In their first appearance at the event, they landed two impressive BigEye tunas weighing 204.5 pounds and 175 pounds, respectively. These catches secured them the majority of the ‘Treasure Chest’ and Calcutta pots.

Meanwhile, The Business, a 68 Viking boat hailing from Key Largo, Florida, took home the accolades for the most billfish release points and the largest Mahi caught during the tournament.

A former member, board member, and tournament chairman expressed their nostalgia for the event and the Beach Haven Marlin and Tuna Club, a 75-year-old institution located at the end of Pennsylvania Ave in the heart of Beach Haven. They highlighted the club’s enduring commitment to camaraderie, family, and providing a platform for smaller boats and less experienced crews to participate in a high-stakes tournament environment.

While the White Marlin Invitational may not boast the same glitz and glamour as some of the larger summer tournaments along the Northeastern US coast, it has always maintained a focus on fostering a welcoming atmosphere for all participants. The success of this year’s event is a testament to the dedication of the teams and the entire membership of the club.

Congratulations to all the teams that contributed to the success of the 55th Annual White Marlin Invitational, and a special acknowledgment to the hardworking individuals who ensure that this event remains a special tradition. Here’s to looking forward to the 56th edition in 2025!
